Honestly, I realise that the only way to make it on minimum wage is to get into a fast food restaurant, and eat at discount or free from work, so you can mitigate food costs.
But seriously... Taco Bell...I feel ashamed of myself. The one company where promotion and pay raises are not based on preformance, training, or time with the company, but by how willing you are to let them screw you.
Literally the only way to advance in my francise is to be completely willing to uproot your life and move to whereever they need you, regardless of any hardship that may cause you...Or frame your supervisor for peddling illegal substances, that too is an option.
But I'm mostly just writing this to get some things off my chest. Frustrations and thing that job put me through...I've dealt with them for a long time, just under the pretense of getting by and I don't want to deal with anymore.
I hate the people that come to fast food. I really do. If you love it and feel the heavy addictive urge to eat fast food daily, I am sorry to say that, and I probably don't mean you. You'll at least be there enough to know what goes on in a store.
The people I speak of are those that just have forgotten how hard it can be, being at the bottom, or those that simply are too old to bully someone, so they have to get their kicks another way. Or simply those that are so ignorant of anyone elses problems but their own, they take offense to when even the slightest thing goes wrong.
But hey, you paid for it. That makes me less of a person, nay, a practical emotionless robot...Because you gave me 5 bucks for some quick meal.
I mean I can list the things never to do when ordering a meal. I can name them off right here, it doesn't take more than common sense to figure them out.
In fact, I think I will...See it as a "how not to get your food spat in" guide, from yours truely, free of charge.
First off, don't steal food. Seriously, it irks me. Nay, offends me how people think they are so sly and clever, that they can continually force the employees to give them free food under the pretense of complaints. If you've done this in the past, I understand. Food is expense and sometime you can get more if you point out a mistake. If a mistake was made, then you have all rights to your free food. They messed up, that's the consequence...
It's when you start getting really obscure, or start to lie to us, that I get angry. Literally, this is how easy it is; all you have to do to get a whole new burrito made in Taco Bell, is buy one, and then after you take the first bite, go back to the counter and complain the beans, and I quote this from a actual customer, 'don't taste right'.
Bingo, instant fresh burrito to your specifications. Head outside and enjoy...
I actually had a woman, around her mid-fourties, do this 4 times a week. And everyone new she was lying, but we are supposed to, by just wearing that uniform, BELIEVE every schmuck that walks in.
Secondly, don't be a troll. By Troll, I mean those bullies that grew up, and now upgrade to picking on people while they are a customer. I have heard it all from these people...
"HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE SALT IN A TACO STAND" ~~Hasn't had salt for 3 month cause no one wants it on a Quesadilla. And I was offended she referred to us as a 'stand' like the store was a ply wood table and we were small children selling lemonade. And then she called my Manager a twelve year old...
"These are all red shells, I want Yellow shells! you people are horrible! I want my money back."
~~had this woman not freaked out, he husband coulda saved himself the embarrassment of having to appologize for her. She bought Volcano Tacos, and didn't have the sense to look up at the menu and see the shells where red. That or just wanted something to freak out over...Either way I feel bad for her husband.
"NO RED SAUCE!"
``Simply that, we ran outta red sauce for burritos. Now this is the best example I have for human pig-headedness. This young lady, who screamed just this before storming out, had earlier purchased a burrito from the store, and I neglected to mention the Red Sauce being out. Her burrito was made without, and she ate the whole thing, commenting to me it was one of the finest burrito's she'd had there. 4 hours later she comes back, and she orders the exact same item, and I tell her the lack of red sauce. She explodes at me, and storms out. Before I even get the pleasure of telling ehr that the first burrito, the perfect one, didn't have any red sauce at all.
What I am getting at with point number two is that, your cashier is a person too. He works hard so you can give him your money, 100% productivity every day...That wears on you as you fall into the routine. I can think of no Career job that actually requires 100% productivity. And the guy behind the registure is a person too. Treat him like one.
And here's another thing. These people, these restaurant trolls, actually follow a stereotype. Prehap one of the few TRUE stereotypes. Everyone who has ever been a Troll in my stores has followed the same template. They are between late twenties and mid-thirties. The vast majority, will be on their lunch break. 99% of them come dressed in business attire. Normally, such business attire is fairly standard, lacking individuality or even failing to flatter the person's features, as though the outfit was picked out by the person's mother...That's how I once described it. If they do not fit this clothing pattern, then they will be dressed in their equivilant of "down time" clothing. Normally sweats and tennis shoes.
Either way, the similarity between them all in my mind is uncanny...Far too uncanny for conicidence.
Thirdly, Drive Thru Faux Pas. Gawds, I just might submit the list of these as a deviation. But still, it's all just horse sense. Decide what you want before you start ordering, order everything at once, if you forget something...tell a human face, and don't overstay your welcome. That abouts sums it up.
Fourthly, don't be a pig. High school kids do this alot. They try to make as big a mess as possible, cause they find it funny to make someone else pick up after them. It's juvenile and pathetic. But then I see adults do it too, and it boggles my mind. Businesses should charge an extra fee to dining in, just because a few apples have spoiled it for you all.
Anyway, that's enough ranting...
Good therapy...
